OUR NOVEMBER GUIDED WALKS

WE HAVE TWO GUIDED WALKS ON OFFER IN NOVEMBER:

*** On Saturday November 11th: TO CARTWRIGHT HALL AND LISTER PARK (photo attached). Our November second Saturday walk is an urban walk with surprising green spaces! The destination is CARTWRIGHT HALL / LISTER PARK in Manningham. Join Bob Davidson, walk leader, at the Potted Meat Stick (BD17 6ND) at 10.00am for an easy walk of just under 5 miles to Bradford’s Art Gallery Cartwright Hall. This is a linear walk (about 2.5
hours) which will finish at Cartwright Hall with options for you to continue into town, go on to watch Bradford City play Barrow or catch the bus back to Baildon, (the 626 stops at the park gates). Cartwright Hall has the Hockney Gallery with his pictures of Bradford from when he lived here. Another exhibition – “Asia” – shows items from the collection focusing on China, Japan, India and Pakistan. Cartwright Hall has an excellent cafe for hot drinks, snacks or a meal.

We will use paths, canal towpath and green corridors (Aire Valley
Greenway) and dive into a corner of Heaton Woods. Some pavements and quiet roads. Expect one or two surprising views if it is clear and to discover Jacob’s ladder. No booking required: just come along.

*** Thursday 23 November. HIRST WOOD: ARCHAEOLOGY GUIDED WALK.
Pre-booking is essential as numbers are limited to 12 – see below to find out how to book.

Meet Chris Flecknoe, walk leader, at 10.00am at Roberts Park, by the Coach House at the main entrance to the Park from the Baildon side (close to the Adventure Play area).

We will walk along the canal towpath to the entrance to Hirst Wood where we will meet Maggie Fleming, archaeology enthusiast, for a visit to look at the archaeology of Hirst Wood. Our walk of 0.8 miles through the woods will be rough underfoot in some places, so walking boots are recommended. Bring a drink, and “elevenses” snack if you wish. At the end of the walk through the woods (expected to be around 12.15) we will offer the opportunity to visit the Higher Ground Café for a hot drink or light lunch, and there may be time to visit the Hirst Wood Nature Reserve, before we return along the river bank to our starting point for around 1.30pm. Total distance, around 3 miles.

To book, email info@baildonwalkersarewelcome.org with your name and a telephone number for us to use in the event that we had to contact participants at the last minute.

This Guided Walk will not go ahead if there is high wind (risk of falling branches) or heavy rain. We will inform all those who have booked if cancellation becomes necessary.
