“OCTOBER SIXERS” Baildon WaW guided walks.

The photo shows our walkers enjoying the “Views across the Valley guided walk on Saturday 17 October.

Sorry friends.  All our October guided walks are now fully booked. Watch out for more coming up for November.

———————————

Baildon Walkers are Welcome has decided for the time being to stick with a maximum of 6 (1 leader and 5 participants) on our guided walks (even though organised, risk-assessed, and Covid-safe guided walks are still permitted with up to 30 participants.

We will therefore need to continue to ask you to book if you wish to join any of the walks.

Here are the walks on offer over the next 5 weeks. We will add more walks and dates as the autumn progresses, so keep an eye on this website.

Please read the information and guidance at the bottom of this email if you wish to book.

Thursday 1 October. “MEANDERS ON THE MOOR AND A CAFE STOP”. The sun shone and we enjoyed a lovely walk, stopping off to sit at the outdoor tables for some refreshment at the very friendly Dobrudden Cafe on the way.

Friday 9 October. “BURLEY MOOR EXPLORER”. 9 miles.  This walk is now full. Meet at Potted Meat Stick for 10.00am start.  We shall leave Baildon via Sconce, passing Faweather Grange and on up onto Hawksworth Moor. We will cross the grouse moors above Burley in Wharfedale and hope to enjoy views of Wharfedale, before looping back to Baildon on the Millenium Way. An energetic walk, responding to requests from walkers to explore what lies beyond Reeva and Weecher reservoirs. Walk expected to last 4.5 hours, returning to Baildon by 14.30. Bring a packed lunch and any other refreshments needed as there are no café facilities on the route. All walking is on recognised paths and tracks with varied terrain. Steady gradients. Strong footwear and waterproofs essential.

Saturday 17 October. “VIEWS FROM ACROSS THE VALLEY”. 6 miles. This walk is now full. A repeat of the walk offered in September which was oversubscribed. 10.00am start from the Potted Meat Stick. This circular walk will explore the Aire Valley, ascending to Idle Hill, where (weather permitting) we’ll have elevenses and see Baildon from a different angle. There will be 2 steady downs and 2 steady ups, and no stiles to contend with. Anticipated return to Baildon for 12.30. Walks leader: Pat Addinell.

Monday 19 October. “AUTUMN WOODLAND WALK”. 5 miles. This walk is now full. 10.00am start from outside Bracken Hall Countryside Centre. We will take a circular route through some of the best of our local woods including Shipley Glen, Hirst Wood, and Walker Wood, hoping to enjoy some attractive autumn tints on the trees. The ground may be rough underfoot in places. One stile. Return to Bracken Hall by 13.00.

Thursday 22 October. “WALKING THE WALLS”.   Less than 2 miles. No, this is not an invitation to walk the walls of York. It is an opportunity  to join John Anderson to interpret and speculate on  the fascinating stone walls of Baildon.  This gentle guided walk should last up to 90 minutes and will be led for Baildon WaW by Mervyn Flecknoe. No stiles.

The walk will go from the  the Potted Meat Stick, up Hall Cliffe, turn left along Holden Lane, keep straight on past the cricket and rugby pitches, down the little steps towards Moorside Lane, turn left along the moor wall behind the houses, turn left down Moorgate, look at High Fold and the platinum-award toilet walls and end at the potted meat stick. It is about  a mile in length and has approximately nine steps (on the path from the rugby pitch down to  Moorside Lane).
