Guided Walk: PEOPLE’S STORIES: Share memories from Shipley Glen to Gilstead, circular. Saturday 22 April

As part of the Saltaire Heritage Weekend, this guided walk is being led by Richard Freeman and Eddie Nash of Baildon Walkers are Welcome. Meet at 11.00am at the Bracken Hall Centre for a short talk about Shipley Glen and its Victorian amusement rides and political meetings. Then we set off down Shipley Glen with a stop at the site of the old funfair in Prod Lane and a talk on working there, a ride on Shipley Glen Tramway, a visit toRoberts Park, and continue along the River Aire, Hirst Wood Weir, and Milner Fields towards Gilstead and  the top of Shipley Glen. After crossing Gill Beck we arrive at the WW2 tank traps in the Glen and return to Bracken Hall and the circle of ancient stones Soldiers Trench. The Bracken Hall Centre will be showing a historic 1910 film of the crowds of people visiting the Glen and Tramway and the amusements and this can be viewed on our return.
