POP-UP GUIDED WALK TO THE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE FINALE AT THE COW AND CALF ROCKS." A Baildon Walkers are Welcome guided walk @ Meet at Baildon Potted Meat Stick by Ian Clough car park in centre of Baildon,

When we produced our Four Walks leaflet a few years ago, we did not know that one of the routes which passes the Cow and Calf Rocks, would be the obvious route from Baildon to reach the point where the 2018 Women’s Race will finish (around 12.30pm) and where stage 2 of the Men’s race will finish! As you can imagine all roads to the Cow and Calf Rocks will be blocked for hours beforehand.  A walk over the moor will be the crowd free way to see this great spectacle as well as enjoying some great views of Wharfedale.

Join Bob Davidson and Paul Robinson for our walk which will leave the Potted Meat Stick in the middle of Baildon at 1.00pm, aiming to reach the Cow and Calf rocks in good time to find a place to watch the finish of the men’s stage which will be just before 18.00.

We usually aim on our walks to get everyone back to Baildon as a group. Realistically there are going to be thousands of people at the Cow and Calf Rocks for this event and we will not be able to stay together. We will make sure everyone has details of how to get down into Ilkley and get trains back to Baildon. Expect very crowded trains.

The whole walk into Ilkley is about 8 miles with 225 metres of ascent. The route leaves Baildon via Sconce, Faweather Grange and Little London, before crossing Hawksworth Moor and Burley Moor to reach the rocks. The whole walk into Ilkley takes about 4 hours but on crowded pavements, the last part down to the town may be slow. Paths are mostly good but sturdy footwear is recommended as there are sections which are uneven and rocky.

There is a café at the Cow and Calf Rocks and a pub. There are likely to be other stalls. We advise bringing drinks and having some food with you. Please bring waterproofs – forecast at the moment for Friday is Ok but the week’s weather is changeable.

As our contribution to Tour de Yorkshire festivities, we will be giving a copy of our Four Walks Leaflet to everyone who joins us for this walk.
